Open Call to apply for The Moment Photo Book Brewery

The Book Brewery is now closed for applications. Thank you for applying!

Making a photo book may be a long, painstaking, lonely and frustrating process. But don't despair! Moment is introducing The Photo Book Brewery!

The Moment Photo Book Brewery is a creative program designed for seven established book producing photographers living in the Nordic and Baltic countries, who are in the process of making a new photo book.

Together with a mentor and invited guest speakers from the photo book community, selected photographers will help each other drive their individual projects forward. The program will consist of workshops that will aid the photographers in their book making processes, helping them overcome the many creative and practical challenges of working alone on a book project.

The Moment Photo Book Brewery’s main objective is to create a space for exchange of knowledge and inspiration in the process of making photo books. It will also serve as a platform for dialogue about photography and the photo book between the participants, the invited mentors/guest speakers. A sub target is that when this project is over the participating photographers will be ready to publish a photo book of their own.

Why a photo book brewery

Brewery sounds better than club. And we are sure we will enjoy the process and value the outcome. A very important part of this is to make new connections across the borders in our corner of the world. We won't publish any books, we leave that last bit to you.

What it means to be a member of The Moment Book Brewery

You will attend two workshops, possibly in Oslo and Riga.

You will attend digital workshops, both with the whole group and in pairs of two or three.

You will be part of a group of photographers working on book projects, and connected with a mentor who will help you and the group to develop your project. You will help the other member’s projects forward by sharing your input and experience.

And of course: We will look at photo books, talk about photo books editing, sequencing, binding, materials etc. etc.

Timeline of the project

June 2023: Open call - selection process

August 2023: Selected photographers will be notified.

September 2023: Digital meet and greet, brief introductions of all projects.

October/ November 2023: Workshop in Riga (or other location)

June 2024: Workshop in Oslo

What The Moment Book Brewery is NOT

We do not publish books. We only aim to help each other develop the individual projects to be ready to present to a publisher.

We do not financially support any of the photo projects, and we do not take responsibility to help provide financial support under this programme. It is therefore wise to choose a project that does not depend on financing you haven't already been granted.

We are not a service institution, but a forum for collaboration where all participants contribute and help each other drive our projects forward.
